What if my doctor won't allow recording?

Recording requires your provider's consent, and some providers will decline. Notes-only mode gives you the same structured recap without the microphone — so you never leave empty-handed regardless of the answer.

Start notes-only capture

  • When the consent step appears, tap Doctor declined — notes only.

  • The recording header changes to Recording off · notes only.

  • Everything else works the same: add notes, check off questions, attach photos.

What you can still do in notes-only mode

  • Type or dictate Open notes as the conversation unfolds.

  • Check off agenda questions as they come up.

  • Attach photos of handouts, prescriptions, or lab results.

Turning recording on mid-visit

If your doctor changes their mind during the appointment, tap Turn on in the recording banner. Kiri will ask you to confirm consent before the microphone activates.

What the recap looks like without a recording

  • Kiri uses your typed notes to build the recap.

  • If your notes include medicine doses, follow-up dates, or "call if…" instructions, Kiri will extract those into Key Things to Remember and Reminder drafts.

  • If the notes are too brief to extract anything, Kiri will let you know: "Kiri didn't find anything to turn into reminders or a summary this time. If your notes mention medicine doses, follow-up dates, or 'call if…' instructions, adding those specifics helps."

  • There is no transcript section — that only appears after a recording.

Tip for better notes

Short, specific notes work best. Things like "Amoxicillin 5ml twice a day for 10 days" or "Follow up in 2 weeks if fever returns" give Kiri enough detail to create a useful recap.
