What should I do if Kiri doesn’t recognize my voice command?

Don’t worry — a few quick tweaks usually solve it.

Updated over a month ago

Sometimes Kiri might not catch exactly what you said — especially if there’s background noise, or if the phrasing is a little different from what the app expects. Here are some tips to get your log through:

✅ Speak naturally but clearly

  • Try to speak at a normal pace and volume.

  • Avoid talking too quickly or in a whisper.

✅ Include the event type

Make sure to mention what you want to log:

  • “Ella slept for 2 hours at 3pm.”

  • “Noah had a wet diaper at 4am.”

  • “Maya ate solids for lunch.”

✅ Add the child’s name (if you have more than one)

This helps Kiri know who the entry belongs to.

✅ Use supported categories

Kiri recognizes sleep, feeding, diapers, tummy time, activities, growth metrics (weight, height, head circumference, temperature), and times for backdating.

✅ Edit manually if needed

If something comes out a little off, you can always tap the entry afterwards and adjust it by hand.

Common fixes if Kiri isn’t working at all

  • Make sure Kiri has microphone access and Speech permissions (check in Device Settings → Appes → Kiri).

  • Update to the latest version of Kiri from the App Store.

  • Try closing and reopening the app if it feels “stuck.”

⚠️ Watch out for name collisions

There’s a small chance that if a syllable of your child’s name sounds like an action, Kiri might interpret it incorrectly.

For example:

  • If your child’s name sounded like “Fed”, it could be heard as “feed.”

  • If your child’s name sounded like “Slept”, it could be heard as a sleep entry.

If this happens often, try using a nickname (e.g., “Freddy” instead of “Fed”) so voice logging works smoothly.

👉 Summary: If Kiri doesn’t recognize a command, try speaking clearly, include the event type, and don’t forget you can always edit an entry manually. Most issues are solved with small adjustments.
